Able
to focus image at center, but out of focus at the corners.
|
|
Solution
|
Back
focus the camera/lens system. This ensures proper flange back
adjustment between the lens rear element and the CCD imager.
|
|
Note
|
Back
focus procedures differ for Monofocal adjustments vs. Varifocal/Zoom
adjustments.
|
|
Monofocal
- Set the focus ring to infinity.
- Open the iris (for auto iris
lenses this can be done by inserting a gel or filter in front
of the lens).
- Aim the camera at an object
that is the same distance as the scene to be viewed.
- Adjust the back focus mechanism
on the camera for the best picture.
|
|
Varifocal/Zoom
- Determine a target subject located
close to the M.O.D.(Minimum Object Distance) of the lens.
- Set the lens to the wide end
(mechanical stop) of the focal length range with the iris wide
open, then position the focus ring to the nearest distance.
Adjust the back focus mechanism on the camera (you are shifting
the relative position of the imager) until the target subject
comes up sharpest.
- After the subject comes into
sharpest focus, rotate the zoom ring to the tele end without
adjusting the focus ring (focus ring remains at the M.O.D. position),
then re-adjust the back focus for optimal image clarity.
- Determine a target subject at
a sufficiently far distance (the longer the focal length, the
more distance you need), then point the lens at it. This time,
turn the zoom right to the tele end with the focus ring set
to an infinity position. If you see a clearly focused image,
the adjustment is complete.
- If you see a blurred image,
adjust the back focus for an optimal position then go back to
step 1. By repeating steps 1-4, you will be able to finish the
adjustment.
- Final Check.Make sure to focus the lens
to subjects located at various distances from infinity to the
closest distance while changing the focal length setting back
and forth between tele and wide ends. So far as the back focus
is adjusted properly, the image should stay in focus at all
times.

Solution
|
Verify
lens iris type (DC or Video iris) and check camera for compatibility.
|
|
Note
|
Most
cameras are DC or Video iris selectable. Ensure camera selection
is in the correct position for the lens type.
